17 The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.  1 Tim 5:17
 

Our Leaders

 

God’s word is to the point about the organization and leadership of the Church. 

Col 1:17-18
17 He (Christ) is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
 

With Christ as the sole head of the Church, Scripture provides that each congregation is to be autonomous (self governing) with a plurality of elders that meet the qualifications stated in Titus 1 and 1 Timothy 3.  Our congregation is led by five such men. 

 

  • Steve Land is a lifelong resident of this area and a Master Electrician.  He and his wife, Shirley, live on beautiful Lake Hamilton where he takes advantage of every fishing opportunity.

 

  • Alvin Hicks is retired and enjoys Razorback sports, gardening and young people.  He is a World War II veteran and has a passion for baseball.  He, with the support of his wife, Effie, has served both this congregation and the former Southside church as an elder. 

 

  • W.C. Maynard and wife, Jenny, came to us from Mississippi where he formerly served as an elder.  He went to work immediately and was appointed as an elder here in 2003.  He is retired.

 

  • Danny Vaughn is retired from Southwestern Bell and enjoys carpentry work.  He and his wife, Joanne, grew up in the Glenwood area.  Danny was very instrumental in overseeing the construction of our new building. 

 

  • Gene Prescott and his wife, Lorene, moved here from Memphis several years ago and he too went to work.  Retired from the telephone company he lives on Lake Hamilton also.  Gene is a World War II vet and former prisoner of war.
